This month's theme is Bamboo in Chinese Xieyi painting style. Xieyi (写意), literally "writing the idea" or "painting the intent," is one of the two major traditions in Chinese painting. Rather than striving for photographic realism, xieyi seeks to capture the spirit (神, shén), energy, and character of the subject with the fewest possible brushstrokes.

You'll learn simple brush techniques while creating your own bamboo painting to take home.

No previous painting experience is needed—this session is designed for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to explore a new artistic style in a fun, friendly atmosphere.
